Vientiane:The 10th National Assembly has commenced its second ordinary session, attended by President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, members of the National Assembly from across the country, government officials, diplomatic representatives, and business leaders.
According to Lao News Agency, Acting President of the National Assembly, Sounthone Sayachack, stated that the session will address important national issues, including the approval of high-level personnel for both the National Assembly and the Government. She highlighted that the country has sustained political stability and social order while progressing in socio-economic development. These efforts have improved people's livelihoods, enhanced national development, and elevated Laos' international standing.
The National Assembly will review government reports on the implementation of the 2026 National Socio-Economic Development Plan, the State Budget Plan, and the Monetary Plan, alongside setting targets for 2027. Additionally, reports from the State Audit Organization on its 2026 and 2027 work plans and audit results concerning the 2025 final State Budget will be considered.
Lawmakers are scheduled to evaluate 2026 performance reports and 2027 work directions from the National Assembly, the State Inspection Authority, the Supreme People's Prosecutor-General, and the Supreme People's Court. Furthermore, eight draft laws will be up for consideration and voting, including the new Law on Deposit Protection and amendments to laws related to the Government, Lao People's Army Officers, Lao People's Public Security Forces, Civil Aviation, Road Traffic, Cybercrime Prevention, and Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The session will also facilitate opportunities for lawmakers to question and receive responses from the President, Government members, and relevant sectors. Ms. Sounthone urged NA members to diligently fulfill their duties, share their expertise, and ensure decisions contribute to national development while adhering to legal frameworks.
