GUILIN: The ASEAN Media Partners Cooperation Week, marking its fourth edition, commenced on November 8 in Guilin, Guangxi, China, under the theme ‘New Quality Coexistence Civilization.’ The event brought together media representatives from China and ASEAN countries, highlighting the importance of cross-border media collaboration.
According to Lao News Agency, the opening ceremony featured significant contributions from Mr. Fan Yun, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Media Group and Editor-in-Chief of CGTN, and Ms. Chen Yijun, a Standing Committee Member of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee and Head of its Publicity Department. These remarks set the tone for discussions on enhancing media partnerships.
Ms. Sivanxay Siphankham, Deputy Director of the Lao News Agency, emphasized the progress in Laos-China cooperation from 2021 to 2022. She pointed out that the partnership between the two countries has been elevated to new levels through a ‘Community with a Shared Future,’ guided by a newly signed
master plan for their comprehensive strategic partnership, promising a new era for the Laos-China Community of Shared Future.
A standout aspect of this partnership is the Laos-China Railway project, which Ms. Sivanxay described as a ‘golden route’ facilitating efficient and convenient trade. This railway has been pivotal in transforming Laos from a landlocked country into a hub for international trade.
Addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, Ms. Siphankham noted the potential threat AI poses to the originality and integrity of professional journalism. She cautioned that AI’s capabilities to archive, replicate, and create media content could appropriate journalistic work, thereby undermining the industry.
In light of these challenges, Ms. Siphankham urged ASEAN media to engage in regular exchanges of experiences and foster new forms of collaboration. She stressed the importance of working together to enhance media quality and security, grounded in mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
