5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Luzon


Calayan, Cagayan – A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Northern Luzon on Wednesday.



According to Philippines News Agency, The quake’s epicenter was located seven kilometers northeast of Dalupiri Island, Calayan, in the province of Cagayan.



Phivolcs reported that the earthquake, which occurred at approximately 2:19 p.m., was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was felt at Intensity II in nearby areas, including Aparri in Cagayan, Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte, and Candon City in Ilocos Sur. Additionally, Intensity I was recorded in Peñablanca and Gonzaga in Cagayan, and Laoag City in Ilocos Sur.



While no damage to infrastructure was expected, Phivolcs advised the public to remain vigilant and prepared for potential aftershocks following the earthquake.
