Australia Engages in Key ASEAN Defence Discussions in Laos.


Vientiane: Australia is actively participating in the 11th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) held in Laos, with the Hon Pat Conroy MP, Australian Minister for Defence Industry and Capability Delivery, representing the country at the event this week. Conroy is set to take part in the ADMM-Plus plenary sessions, engage with ASEAN and regional partners, and co-host a significant ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Australia’s partnership with ASEAN.

According to Lao News Agency, the ADMM-Plus is recognized as the region’s foremost defence dialogue, involving the 10 ASEAN nations, ASEAN’s eight dialogue partners, and Timor-Leste. This participation underscores Australia’s dedication to fostering regional peace, stability, and prosperity, with a particular emphasis on its foundational relationship with ASEAN. Minister Conroy expressed his honour in representing Australia at this pivotal gathering, noting the milestone year highlights the critical nature of Australia’s ties with ASEAN na
tions and their collective vision for a peaceful Indo-Pacific region.
