Vientiane: Mr Ngampasong Meuangmany, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, led a delegation to consult with the Vientiane Administration, represented by the Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone. On Monday, Mar 2, 2026, the meeting focused on advancing the Socio-Economic Development Plan and addressing transport issues, including urban traffic congestion, accident prevention, and the repair of damaged roads in both the city centre and suburban areas.

According to Lao News Agency, the Ministry and the Vientiane Administration reached a consensus to finalise infrastructure improvements and ensure readiness for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) trial run along designated routes. The service is expected to resume for the public on Mar 10, 2026, with the official project handover occurring shortly thereafter.

Both sides also agreed to conduct research and implement measures to address water supply shortages in urban and suburban areas, ensuring reliable access to clean water. Furthermore, they emphasised the necessity of developing a plan for road repairs to ensure safe and efficient travel. Future plans include upgrading suburban village roads with asphalt or concrete surfacing.

Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s support. He noted that this collaboration is an opportunity for both parties to align their efforts and solve problems effectively. The goal of these initiatives is to transform Vientiane into a clean, beautiful, and livable city that serves as a hub for the economy, culture, and tourism for both domestic and international visitors.
