Fifth National Inspection Conference Opens with Focus on Anti-Corruption and Good Governance

Vientiane: The Fifth National Inspection Conference opened in Vientiane on July 1, 2026, bringing together senior Party and State leaders to review inspection and anti-corruption efforts and set priorities for the next five years. According to Lao News Agency, the conference, held under the theme "Strengthening comprehensive and rigorous monitoring and inspection, resolutely combating corruption with transparency and modernity for sustainable national development," was chaired by General Vilay Lakhamfong, Politburo member and Standing Secretary of the Party Central Committee Secretariat. Participants included members of the Politburo, the Party Central Committee Secretariat, senior officials from the Party Central Committee Inspection Commission-State Inspection Authority, and provincial and Vientiane Capital leaders. In his opening remarks, General Vilay Lakhamfong stated that the conference would review the implementation of inspection work during 2021-2025, assess achievements, challenges, and lessons le arned, and adopt strategic directions for 2026-2030. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Party and state inspection mechanisms, enhancing governance, and improving the effectiveness of corruption prevention and enforcement in line with the resolutions of the 12th Party Congress. During the conference, Vansay Phongsavan, President of the Party Central Committee Inspection Commission and the State Inspection Authority, presented a draft report reviewing inspection and anti-corruption work over the past five years and outlined priorities for the next phase. Delegates also discussed a draft development plan for inspection work for 2026-2030 and reviewed a proposed resolution aimed at strengthening measures to prevent and combat corruption, abuse of power, wastefulness, and other negative practices within the Party, state institutions, and society.
