Gov’t Greenlights 66 Innovative Projects in Mobility and Hydrogen Sectors

Seoul: The government announced its approval of 66 regulatory sandbox projects aimed at fostering innovation within the advanced industries of mobility and hydrogen, as well as other sectors.

According to Lao News Agency, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has endorsed several cutting-edge initiatives, including the pilot testing of wireless charging for self-driving electric vehicles (EVs) by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute. Additionally, the Agency for Defense Development, a state-run organization, received approval to demonstrate an unmanned underwater vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Kia Corp. has also been granted permission to test a mobile hydrogen fuel cell generator designed for rapid power supply during emergencies.

Regulatory sandbox projects provide companies with the opportunity to experiment with innovative products, services, and business models under temporary regulatory flexibility, free from the usual oversight by authorities.

“We reviewed demonstration applications involving products and services that utilize advanced technologies, with a particular focus on areas of the development of next-generation defense technologies,” an official at the ministry stated. The official further emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the testing and commercialization of new technologies across various sectors.
