Hong Kong Hosts International Mediation Convention Ceremony, Solidifying Global Hub Status


Hong Kong: Hong Kong, often referred to as ‘Asia’s World City,’ recently hosted the significant Signing Ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) on May 30. As the designated future headquarters of IOMed, Hong Kong welcomed delegates with souvenirs and greetings, underscoring its reputation as a global hub.



According to Lao News Agency, the event captured international media attention, with nine foreign journalists from the China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC) invited to cover the ceremony. Their visit was part of a journalist program that included briefings and tours, highlighting Hong Kong’s status as one of China’s most developed cities.



Visitors are immediately impressed by Hong Kong’s infrastructure, which seamlessly connects roads, bridges, and commercial networks, especially between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The city’s skyline, featuring high-rises, luxurious hotels, and state-of-the-art facilities, showcases its blend of modernity and efficiency.



Tourists can explore Hong Kong’s vibrant culture through experiences like the Old Town Central Walking Tour, which reveals the city’s rich history. A trip to Victoria Peak offers scenic views alongside world-class dining and shopping, with the misty mountain air and panoramic skyline providing a memorable experience.



At a reception for international reporters, Mr. Huang Jingrui, Counselor to Hong Kong, emphasized the city’s unique position: ‘Hong Kong is China’s most international city, where East meets West and tradition blends with modernity.’



Under the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ framework, Hong Kong has entered a new era of stability and prosperity, maintaining its status as a global financial, trade, and shipping hub. With central government support and cross-sector collaboration, Hong Kong’s economy continues to thrive.



GDP growth rose to 3.1% year-on-year in Q1 2025, up from 2.5% in Q4 2024. Tourism has also rebounded strongly, with 16.07 million visitors in the first four months of 2025, marking a 10% increase from 2024. Arrivals from key markets like Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia surged by 20-30%.



‘The world is rediscovering Hong Kong’s unique charm,’ noted Mr. Huang. From its economic vitality to its cultural richness, Hong Kong truly lives up to its title as Asia’s World City.
