Lao Government Welcomes Four New Japanese Volunteers


Vientiane: A warm welcome ceremony was held at the Embassy of Japan in Vientiane to greet four newly arrived Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs). The event was attended by Mr. Tasaka Takuro, Charg© d’affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Japan to the Lao P.D.R., Ms. Sisomboun Ounavong, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ms. Kobayashi Miyako, Chief Representative of JICA Laos, along with representatives from relevant ministries, organizations, and the JICA Laos Office.



According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Tasaka Takuro stated during the ceremony that with the arrival of these four volunteers, the number of JOCVs currently active in Laos has reached 41. He highlighted the significance of the year, marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos, and the 60th anniversary of the first dispatch of JOCVs to Laos.



The Lao government also expressed its appreciation for the volunteers’ contributions. Mr. Tasaka added that the Government of Laos highly recognizes the dedication of the JOCVs and hopes that the new members will stay healthy, enjoy their work, and successfully complete their assignments.



During the ceremony, the new volunteers had the opportunity to meet their future supervisors and colleagues. Two of the JOCVs will be stationed in Vientiane Capital, while the other two are scheduled to be deployed to Xiengkhouang and Savannakhet provinces in the coming weeks.
