In the first three months of the year, as of March 3, the Laos-China railway has carried more than 1.7 million passengers, including 1.55 million passengers carried on the rail section in China, and 1.1 million tons of goods.
The Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd has claimed that the railway cuts the cost of freight transport between Laos’ Vientiane and Kunming, China by 40% -50%. Meanwhile, the transport cost in Laos is reportedly reduced by 20% – 40% due to the railway.
The railway has operated 350 international freight trains transporting over 250,000 tons of freight since the beginning of 2022.
Laos is recording a steady increase in train passenger traffic with more than 150,000 passengers traveling with the Laos-China train over the past three months.
