Vice President Pany Yathortou has highly valued the donation of 1,008,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine from the government and people of the United States to the government and people of the Lao PDR.
Addressing a handover ceremony for the medical assistance on Jul 19, Vice President Pany Yathortou said “Today assistance provided through COVAX Facility demonstrates the continued efforts of the government and people of the United States to assist the government and people of Lao PDR in fighting and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic in the Lao PDR. Previously, US provided medical equipment, Astra Zeneca/Oxford vaccines and Pfizer BioNTech vaccines in the beginning of last year. Such cooperation and assistance have demonstrated the sound relations between Laos and US based on their Comprehensive Cooperation.
The Vice President noted that the Johnson & Johnson vaccines will help accelerate achieving a goal of having 50% of population in the Lao PDR vaccinated against Covid-19 by the end of 2021.
Across the country, over 1.829 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 with 1.05 million people given first dose and over 769,000 given second dose, according to the Mother and Child Health Centre, Ministry of Health.
