Vientiane: During the meeting, the two prime ministers expressed satisfaction with the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Laos and Malaysia over the past six decades. They noted that the strong relationship has been reflected through regular exchanges of high-level visits and continued mutual support at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN.
According to Lao News Agency, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in politics, trade, investment, energy, finance and banking, education, tourism, culture, and human resource development. They also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
The leaders noted that 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Malaysia. Both countries plan to organize commemorative activities to celebrate the milestone and further deepen bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Sonexay thanked the Malaysian government for its continued support and assistance to the
Lao PDR. He also encouraged Malaysia to promote greater investment in Laos and invited Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to visit Laos at a convenient time in 2026 to mark the anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia’s continued support for the Lao PDR and expressed readiness to further enhance bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both countries. He also expressed his willingness to pay an official visit to Laos in the future.
