Vientiane: The Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC) has officially launched the latest iteration of its official communication platform, G-Chat v2, integrated with a bespoke national artificial intelligence system, LaoAI. The unveiling ceremony, held on 6 April 2026, marks a pivotal moment in the nation's digital transformation strategy.
According to Lao News Agency, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, alongside other senior Party and state officials. The deployment of this unified system is designed to provide a secure and streamlined communication environment for civil servants across the country.
During his keynote address, Mr Santisouk Simmalavong, the Minister of Technology and Communications, outlined three core objectives behind the development of the new platform namely enhancing cyber security, technological sovereignty, and administrative modernisation.
The most significant upgrade in G-Chat v2 is the inclusion of LaoAI, a national artificial intelligence tool developed to serve as an intelligent assistant for the public sector. The AI provides several key functionalities intended to enhance productivity: document summarisation, drafting assistance for formal government correspondence and documentation, regulatory knowledge for national laws and regulations, and professional-standard translation services to facilitate international cooperation.
The integration of LaoAI is expected to significantly decrease administrative overlap and allow civil servants to focus on specialised, high-priority tasks. In his closing remarks, the Minister urged all ministries and state organisations to integrate G-Chat v2 and LaoAI into their daily operations, emphasising the need for these tools in establishing a modern, secure digital government capable of meeting current demands.
