Sri City: LG Electronics Inc. announced plans to establish a new home appliance factory in India, signaling its dedication to the expanding South Asian market. The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, to be located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, will include the presence of local officials such as Nara Lokesh, the state’s minister for human resources development, and LG Electronics executives, including President Lyu Jae-cheol, head of the home appliance division.
According to Lao News Agency, the plant represents a significant investment of $600 million and is projected to commence production by the end of 2026. The facility will boast an annual production capacity of 800,000 refrigerators, 850,000 washing machines, 1.5 million air conditioners, and 2 million air conditioner compressors. This will be LG Electronics’ third production site in India, complementing existing plants in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and Pune, Maharashtra.
The new Sri City facility is anticipated to serve as a manufacturing hub not only for India but also for neighboring regions, including the Middle East and Bangladesh. LG Electronics emphasizes that the plant will bolster its local supply chain and reinforce its leadership in India’s burgeoning consumer durables market.
“The construction of the Sri City plant is a milestone that signifies LG Electronics’ commitment to becoming a true national brand in India,” stated Lyu. “With innovative products produced through a stronger local supply chain, we will further solidify our position as India’s top home appliance provider.”
