Luang prabang: Authorities in Luang Prabang will host a 10-day celebration for Pi Mai Lao from April 11-20, 2026, according to an announcement by the Luang Prabang District Administration Committee.
According to Lao News Agency, Chairman Saveuy Silavan informed at a press conference on March 12 that preparations are underway to organize traditional activities, ensure safety, and coordinate festival events across the UNESCO-listed district of Luang Prabang.
Major highlights will include the Nang Sangkhane (Miss New Year) pageant, the traditional Hae Vor cultural procession, and the ceremonial bathing of the sacred Phra Bang Buddha image at the Luang Prabang National Museum. Other activities will feature an elephant procession, sand stupa building at Don Say Moungkhoun, and local markets showcasing traditional food and handicrafts.
Local authorities have invited residents and international visitors to join the festival and experience the unique cultural traditions of Luang Prabang during the Lao New Year celebration.
