Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. spearheaded an extensive relief operation on Saturday, providing crucial support to approximately 2,100 families affected by a devastating fire in Tondo, City of Manila. These families, currently residing at the Delpan Evacuation Center, received food, cash assistance, and medical services aimed at addressing their immediate needs.
According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution event took place at the Rosauro Almario Elementary School, where President Marcos underscored the importance of maintaining the health of the displaced families, particularly the children. He expressed concerns over the crowded conditions at the evacuation center and announced that a medical team from the Department of Health would be stationed there to provide continuous care.
President Marcos pledged ongoing support, promising continued delivery of food packs and other forms of assistance until the affected families can rebuild their homes. He also assured the victims that both the
national and local governments are committed to providing new housing solutions before Christmas.
In coordination with Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, the President emphasized the swift delivery of aid and support to the affected families, highlighting the collaboration between national agencies and local government officials as essential to the relief efforts.
Under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program, each affected family received PHP10,000 in cash assistance and family food packs to address their immediate needs. Additionally, the Office of the President distributed 2,100 blankets and sleeping mats to the displaced families.
The massive fire that struck Isla Puting Bato in Tondo and the Sampaloc District on November 24 left approximately 2,100 families displaced, prompting this extensive aid response.
