Vientiane: Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane held a series of meetings with ambassadors from Cambodia, Myanmar, and Singapore on January 13, 2025. During these courtesy visits, Cambodian Ambassador Hulkrang Phanang, Myanmar Ambassador Aung Ko, and Singaporean Ambassador Sudesh Maniar were received in Vientiane.
According to Lao News Agency, Minister Thongsavanh expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the ambassadors, emphasizing the importance of enhancing friendships and cooperation between Laos and their respective countries. The minister underscored the need for high-level exchanges and increased interactions among the peoples of Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Singapore, focusing on key sectors such as economics, trade, and investment.
Minister Thongsavanh also highlighted the necessity of implementing agreements previously signed by senior leaders to achieve concrete results. He stressed the value of mutual assistance and support in both regional and international forums. He invited the ambassadors to explore various provinces in Laos to identify potential areas for cooperation, particularly in agriculture, energy, and tourism.
During the meetings, Minister Thongsavanh acknowledged the support of Cambodia, Myanmar, and Singapore during Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024. He expressed hope for continued collaboration and further support from these countries in the future.
The ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the minister’s warm reception and congratulated him on his new role. They pledged to act as crucial links to foster and expand cooperation, ensuring that these partnerships yield positive outcomes for the peoples of Laos and their respective nations.
The diplomatic relations between Lao PDR and these countries date back several decades, with Cambodia on June 15, 1956, Myanmar on July 12, 1955, and Singapore on December 2, 1974.
