VIENTIANE: The 8th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly concluded successfully, marking nearly a month of deliberations aimed at advancing the country’s socio-economic objectives. Presided over by Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, the session involved high-ranking officials and resulted in the passage of 23 resolutions focused on political stability, economic growth, and social development.
According to Lao News Agency, the session, attended by prominent leaders including Party Secretary General and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, translated the resolutions of the 11th Party Congress into directives for state organizations. The assembly approved reports on the 2024 economic-social development plan, state budget, and monetary policy, acknowledging a 4.6% economic growth rate and improvements in provincial revenue collection.
The session finalized the 2025 state investment and budget allocation plans, recommending enhanced revenue collection and publi
c debt restructuring for financial stability. It urged the government to address inflation, regulate commodity prices, and invest in cultural and social sectors, focusing on workforce development and healthcare improvements.
The assembly emphasized infrastructure upgrades to boost tourism and generate national income and approved strategic plans for agricultural land management, highlighting legal adherence and measures against forest encroachment. It also approved nine legal instruments, including new laws on housing and workforce development.
The State Audit Organization’s reports on budget implementation noted progress and challenges, offering recommendations for improved governance and financial transparency. The session concluded with a call for collaboration among government bodies, the private sector, and communities to achieve national development goals.
The successful conclusion of the session represents another step toward realizing the country’s socio-economic ambitions.
