PM Sonexay Inaugurates New School Building in Phongsaly


PHONGSALY: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone inaugurated a new school building at a lower secondary school in the Sanamra village cluster, Samphanh district, Phongsaly Province. The ceremony, held on December 28, 2024, marked a significant development in the region’s educational infrastructure.



According to Lao News Agency, the event was attended by Phongsaly Governor Khamphoy Vannasan, Deputy Ministers, teachers, students, local residents, and representatives from relevant authorities. The new facilities, constructed by Mr. Phoukhaukam Phravolaxay, include a school building with five classrooms, a teacher’s office, restrooms, complete furniture, and an electrical system. Additional features of the project are a student kitchen, a dormitory with ten rooms, and a restroom facility with four rooms. A 500-meter fence and a gate were also built to enhance the security and functionality of the complex.



Construction of the school began on March 25, 2024, and was completed on August 10, 2024. The project, valued at over 4.1 billion kip, was funded as a gift from Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the businesses and donors who contributed to the realization of the project. He emphasized that the new facilities provide adequate learning spaces and dormitories, particularly benefiting students from remote areas.



Prime Minister Sonexay urged local authorities, teachers, and students to collectively ensure the upkeep of the school facilities, highlighting their role as both a place of learning and a second home for the students. The new infrastructure is expected to significantly improve educational opportunities and living conditions for the students in the region.
