President Thongloun Hosts Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Strengthening Lao-Thai Relations


Vientiane: President Thongloun Sisoulith welcomed Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand during her official visit to the Lao PDR from April 21-24, 2025. The meeting underscored the enduring friendship and cooperation between Laos and Thailand.



According to Lao News Agency, President Thongloun expressed high appreciation for Princess Sirindhorn’s visits, highlighting their importance in fortifying bilateral relations. This year’s visit is particularly significant as it marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations and coincides with the 70th birthday of Her Royal Highness.



President Thongloun conveyed birthday wishes to Princess Sirindhorn and extended greetings to the Thai Royal Family. He also invited His Majesty the King of Thailand to co-chair the opening of the 5th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge later this year and suggested a state visit to further enhance bilateral relations.



The President expressed gratitude to Thailand’s Royal Family, government, and people for their support during the funeral of former President Khamtay Siphandone and offered condolences for the damages caused by the earthquake on March 28, 2025.



Over the past 75 years, Lao-Thai cooperation has prospered, with significant benefits in agriculture, education, health, environment, technology, and infrastructure, thanks to development projects under royal patronage. The visit concluded with a Basi ceremony and reception hosted by President Thongloun in a spirit of friendship.
