Southern Bus Station Boosts Services with 70 Daily Trips for Lao New Year Travel Surge


Vientiane: Southern Bus Station is gearing up for the anticipated travel surge during the Lao New Year by preparing a total of 70 daily trips to accommodate the increased passenger volume. Ticket prices have been set in accordance with official rates issued on April 3, 2026. The pricing for various routes from Vientiane is as follows: Pakxan at 180,000 kip for regular and 200,000 kip for VIP2 express, Thakhek ranging from 230,000 to 300,000 kip, Savannakhet at 520,000 to 550,000 kip, Pakse between 400,000 and 500,000 kip, Salavan at 520,000 to 550,000 kip, Sekong from 550,000 to 570,000 kip, Attapeu ranging from 590,000 to 600,000 kip, Don Khong / Veun Kham at 630,000 kip, and Xieng Khouang between 350,000 and 400,000 kip.



According to Lao News Agency, while travel volumes saw an increase between April 8-10, the station managed to avoid overcrowding. Mr. Souksavat, a representative from the station, advised travelers intending to use VIP services to secure their tickets in advance, especially for evening trips. Certain operators offer the convenience of booking a day ahead, which could prove beneficial for passengers.



Travelers are encouraged to verify all ticket details, such as the ticket number, destination, and departure time, to ensure a smooth journey. After securing their tickets, passengers should promptly load their luggage onto the designated bus to prevent any mishaps, particularly since fully booked buses might depart immediately.
