The Laos-China Railway Company has suspended passenger train operations between Vientiane and Luang Prabang until Mar 31, 2022.
The company said on Saturday that its temporary suspension of passenger train service aims to tighten measures against Covid-19 pandemic and facilitate employee reshuffle within the company.
Some 1,263 new cases of Covid-19 and one new fatality attributed to the Coronavirus have been recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control, Ministry of Health Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh told a press conference this morning that the new infections were detected among 3,134 samples tested for Covid-19 nationwide on Sunday. Some 426 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide yesterday.
The new daily cases of Covid-19 included 1,236 domestic transmissions and 27 imported cases with Vientiane reporting the largest number of domestic infections of 501 followed by Khammuan 118, Vientiane (province) 81, Savannakhet 78, Xayaboury 77, Borikhamxay 66, Attapeu 65 and Huaphan 55.
