Vietnamese Firm Hands Over Sports Complex to Laos, Strengthening Bilateral Ties


Sekong: Vietnamese company Viet Phuong Group has officially handed over the Dakcheung district Sports Complex to Laos’ Sekong province, marking a significant contribution to the region’s social welfare infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony on December 27 was attended by prominent figures, including Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam and Sekong province officials, underscoring the cooperative ties between the two nations.



According to Lao News Agency, Ambassador Tam highlighted the critical support from the Lao Party, National Assembly, Government, and local authorities that has enabled Vietnamese companies, including Viet Phuong Group, to thrive in Laos. This support has been pivotal in creating favorable policies and resolving challenges, allowing Viet Phuong Group to enhance its contributions to Sekong province’s socio-economic development and address social welfare needs, particularly amid Laos’ economic challenges.



Sekong’s Governor, Leklay Sivilay, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the province’s administration and residents for the Viet Phuong Group’s efforts in completing the Dakcheung Sports Complex. The facility, now under the management of the Sekong Department of Education and Sports and Dakcheung district authorities, aims to serve as a hub for sports and cultural activities, benefiting local residents’ physical and mental well-being.



The Dakcheung Sports Complex, whose construction began in April 2024 and concluded in December 2024, features a 7,000-square-meter artificial turf football field, an indoor sports hall, and various facilities for sports like p©tanque, badminton, sepaktakraw, and table tennis. Additionally, the complex includes office spaces, storage facilities, and internal road networks, signifying a comprehensive investment in the region’s infrastructure.



The Viet Phuong Group, a major Vietnamese economic conglomerate, has been active in Laos since 2008, with diverse investments across sectors such as construction, timber processing, bauxite mining, energy, agriculture, forestry, and logistics. This latest project reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to fostering development and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
