ASEAN Tourism Standards 2025: Laos Shines with 19 Awards


Johor State: The ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards 2025 ceremony, a significant event of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025, celebrated the commitment of ASEAN member countries to sustainable and inclusive tourism. Hosted in Johor State, Malaysia on Jan 20, the awards honored achievements in four key categories: ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard, ASEAN Spa Services Standard, and ASEAN Public Toilet Standard.



According to Lao News Agency, ASEAN member countries collectively received 154 awards, recognizing their dedication to upholding high-quality tourism standards. Laos emerged as a standout, receiving 19 awards, a testament to its growing reputation as a sustainable and community-focused tourism destination.



Laos received four awards in the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard category for environmentally conscious accommodations. The honored locations include Nadeuang Village in Vang Vieng District, Don Kho Village in Sanasomboun District, Don Daeng Village in Pathoumphone District, and Nongluang Village in Pakxong District, all showcasing the country’s commitment to eco-friendly tourism.



In the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard category, Laos secured five awards for initiatives that foster local engagement and sustainable tourism experiences. Recognized projects include wildlife tours in Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area, and community-focused tourism in Tha Phaen Village, Xang Hai Village, Konglor Village, and Nalan Tai Village.



For spa services that blend traditional and modern practices, Laos earned five awards under the ASEAN Spa Services Standard. Award-winning establishments include the Spa at Amantaka Hotel, Senses Spa at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Baan Lao Spa at MyLaoHome Hotel, Mekong Spa at Phou Vao Hotel, and DaLa Spa.



Laos was also recognized for its clean and accessible public restrooms with five awards in the ASEAN Public Toilet Standard category. The honored facilities are located at Nong Saphang Len, Wat Xieng Thong, Meung Tern View Restaurant, Gneuang Waterfall, and Nang Fa Cave.



Looking ahead, Laos is set to receive 10 additional awards in February 2025, further cementing its position as a leader in sustainable tourism within the ASEAN region. These accomplishments reflect the collaborative efforts of government and provincial authorities, private sector partners, international organizations, and local communities.



Infrastructure investments and sustainable tourism initiatives supported by the Lao government have been pivotal in achieving these milestones. As ASEAN strives to elevate tourism standards across the region, Laos continues to play a vital role in promoting eco-friendly practices, cultural preservation, and community-based tourism development.



This year’s awards underscore ASEAN’s collective vision for sustainable tourism growth and serve as an inspiration for continued excellence across the region.
