Vientiane: The 166th Mekong River Joint Patrol Coordination Meeting convened in Huay Xai District, gathering military and law enforcement delegates from four nations. The meeting was attended by senior officials representing China's Yunnan Provincial Water Police, the Bokeo Provincial Military Command, Myanmar's water police, and Thailand's police leadership, along with security forces from Bokeo and Luang Namtha provinces.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing recent cooperative efforts regarding border security, joint law enforcement operations, and coordinated patrols along the upper Mekong River. Attendees discussed strategies to combat illegal border crossings, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order and security in the region.
Participants underscored the strong coordination among the four countries, characterizing the partnership as based on friendship, cooperation, and mutual support. They acknowledged the significance of their collaborative efforts in ensuring the safety and stability of the Mekong River area.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to enhance collaboration and finalize plans for the upcoming 167th joint Mekong River patrol. Officials expressed confidence that the continued cooperation among border security agencies would foster peace, stability, and shared development along the Mekong River.
