Huaphan: Huaphan Province has officially announced the launch of its 1st Annual Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) and Green Market Fair 2026, aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and forest resource management.
According to Lao News Agency, the announcement was made during a press conference held on May 5 at the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment. The event was presided over by Khamkeo Ounanongnut, President of the Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, alongside relevant provincial officials.
The five-day event will take place from May 18 to 22 at Nouay Keo Lak Meuang Square. Organized under the theme ‘Adding Value to Forest Products, Promoting Local Economies towards Sustainable Development,’ the fair will mark the first large-scale platform in the province dedicated to showcasing forest-based products from districts, SMEs, cooperatives, and local communities.
Visitors can expect a diverse array of products, including wild mushrooms, medicinal plants, bamboo shoots, wild honey, processed forest foods, and traditional handicrafts. More than 70 exhibition booths will feature agricultural goods, NTFPs, and locally produced items with strong market potential.
The event will host a range of activities designed to promote knowledge exchange and business opportunities. These include seminars and discussions on forest product development, live demonstrations of processing techniques, and business matching sessions connecting producers with buyers. Cultural performances will be held in the evenings, while additional activities will promote sports, tourism, and local cuisine.
Provincial officials emphasized Huaphan’s strong One District One Product (ODOP) foundation, which currently covers 90 percent of districts. The province has registered 15 brands across 48 product categories, supported by three business entities and 12 production groups. Key product categories include beverages, food items, ceramics, and handicrafts such as textiles and basketry.
Officials noted that the fair represents an important step toward strengthening sustainable forest management while increasing income opportunities for local communities. The event is also expected to help standardize local products, expand market access, and reinforce efforts to conserve the province’s natural resources.
