Vientiane: Officials reported that international conflicts and economic uncertainty have impacted commodity prices and transportation costs in Laos. Despite these challenges, the government assured that political stability remains intact.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting underscored ongoing efforts to rescue seven individuals trapped inside a cave in Xaisomboun Province. Authorities have also intensified crackdowns on illegal mining operations under Prime Minister’s Order No. 46, resulting in the seizure of vehicles, machinery, and equipment, as well as the detention of suspects across several provinces, including Luang Prabang, Xayaboury, Vientiane, and Savannakhet.
The government announced advancements in dismantling online scam networks in multiple provinces and Vientiane Capital, which have led to the arrest of both Lao and foreign suspects. Officials noted that fuel supply conditions have improved nationwide. State revenue collection has achieved 40% of the annual target, while foreign currenc
y reserves now cover more than five months of imports.
Progress has also been reported on major infrastructure projects, including upgrades to National Road 13, Routes 9 and 12, and Pakse International Airport. Looking ahead to June 2026, officials pledged to continue crackdowns on scams, drugs, and human trafficking, strengthen border security, improve disaster preparedness, and support rescue efforts in Xaisomboun.
Discussions during the meeting also covered education reform, proposed amendments to budget and treasury laws, and measures to address a fish die-off in Champasack Province. In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Sonexay urged ministries and local authorities to transform government plans into concrete actions with clear responsibilities and measurable outcomes.
