Vientiane: Authorities have detained 49 individuals suspected of operating scam centers in Vientiane Province. The detentions occurred during operations conducted on June 1-2 by provincial police in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security. The operations focused on three locations where foreigners were reported to have rented guesthouses and private homes to carry out cybercrime activities.
According to Lao News Agency, the police detained 15 Chinese nationals and one Singaporean national at a guesthouse in Vangvieng District. Additionally, seven Filipino nationals and one Malaysian national were detained at a residence in Keooudom District, while 25 Malaysian nationals were detained at a house in Viengkham District.
Authorities reported the seizure of 35 passports, electronic devices, and other equipment purportedly used in the cybercrime operations. All suspects, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to the Foreigner Management Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security for further investigation and legal proceedings.
