Lao President and Chinese Premier Commit to Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

Beijing: Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and Chinese Premier Li Qiang have pledged to deepen cooperation between their nations. The leaders reviewed progress in bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of 2026, which will mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the Laos-China Friendship Year.

According to Lao News Agency, the two leaders welcomed the growing cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, and connectivity, citing the recent inauguration of the 500-kilovolt Laos-China power transmission line as a significant achievement. They also commended the collaboration between their public security agencies in combating cybercrime.

The discussions between the leaders focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, energy and mining, high technology, and infrastructure development. Culture, tourism, and Mekong-Lancang cooperation were also significant points of discussion. Both sides agreed to maximize the benefits of the Laos-China Railway and promote more high-level exchanges to further strengthen ties.

President Thongloun expressed appreciation for China's longstanding support for Laos' development, reaffirming Laos' commitment to the One-China principle. Premier Li stated that the visit would further enhance the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, pledging continued support for the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects.

The meeting occurred during President Thongloun's state visit to China from June 2-6.
