A senior Church official on Monday urged those who will run in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 to exemplify honesty in serving the community. Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma noted that it is important that each candidate has enough reflection and examines himself to be ready to serve the interest of the majority of the constituents. He issued the appeal four months before the October polls. “For people who have the sincere desire to serve, I would encourage, Go on! Tell the world you want to serve. And be truly sincere once elected,’ the head of the Archdiocese of Cebu said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas. The archbishop also reminded the people to choose carefully the future leaders of each barangay, especially since this is the main response to the needs of the small community. “Be serious about the election, we really discern and pray over and select those we think can give really honest, sincere, and effective service to the community,” Palma added. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) already set the filing of candidacy for village and youth polls aspirants on August 28 to September 2. The campaign period will be from Oct. 19 to 28; election on Oct. 30; and the filing of Statements of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) on Nov. 29. There are over 42,000 barangays in the country
