Bolikhamxay: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone attended the handover and inauguration ceremony of the road connecting Xaychamphon District to the Nam Onn Border Checkpoint on the Lao-Vietnam border. The event took place in Bolikhamxay Province and marked a significant development in the region’s infrastructure.
According to Lao News Agency, the ceremony was graced by the presence of senior officials from central and provincial authorities, along with leaders from Bolikhamxay Province, representatives from Vietnam’s Ha Tinh and Nghe An Provinces, the Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos, and representatives from the companies that funded the project.
The newly completed road, made of asphalt concrete, spans 35 kilometres. Within the district centre, a two-kilometre section features four traffic lanes, each 3.5 metres in width, complete with a central median and drainage systems. The remaining 33-kilometre stretch outside the district centre is composed of two lanes with shoulders on both sides, enhancing the transportation network significantly.
The project also includes the construction of two reinforced concrete bridges, with a combined length of 154.8 metres, and supporting drainage infrastructure. This comprehensive development was financed with an investment of approximately 260 billion kip, provided by the Vietnam-Laos Energy Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. This company is also behind the Truong Son wind power project cluster in Bolikhamxay Province. Notably, the construction was completed within a span of six months and is set to be maintained by the company for five years post-handover.
The road is anticipated to greatly improve transportation in Xaychamphon District, which previously faced travel challenges, especially during the rainy season. The enhanced infrastructure will ensure year-round accessibility, cut down travel time, and provide better opportunities for local residents to enhance their livelihoods.
Moreover, the project is expected to boost trade, investment, tourism, and cross-border economic cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, thereby contributing positively to the socio-economic development of Xaychamphon District and its surrounding regions.
