Vientiane: The Organization Committee of the Party Central Committee hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting between the Public Sector and Lao Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Vientiane on March 5, 2026.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting took place at the Holiday Inn and Suites Vientiane and was chaired by Visouk Phomphithack, Vice Chairman of the Organization Committee of the Party Central Committee. Attendees included vice ministers, vice chairpersons of National Assembly committees, directors and deputy directors from ministries and central mass organizations, alongside representatives of associations and foundations nationwide.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Visouk emphasized the crucial role civil society organizations play in the priorities of the Party and Government, as outlined in the Constitution and national laws. He highlighted the importance of associations and foundations in fostering socio-economic development, enhancing solidarity among citizens, and aiding poverty reduction efforts. The government, he stated, is committed to refining the legal framework to ensure these organizations can function efficiently and align with the National Socio-Economic Development Plan.
During the session, Soulivan Ontavong, Director General of the Department of Public Administration Development, presented the 2025 report on civil society organizations. The report detailed the operation of 358 organizations across the nation, comprising 277 associations and 81 foundations.
The meeting also addressed regulatory and administrative challenges faced by associations and foundations, discussing relevant decrees and implementation guidelines. An exhibition held at Parkson Mall Vientiane showcased the achievements of civil society organizations, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with and support products from various associations and foundations, and highlighting their contributions to local communities.
