Supreme People’s Procuracy of Laos Reports on 2026 Case Handling

Vientiane:The Supreme People's Procuracy of Lao PDR has presented its 2026 performance report and strategic directions for 2027 during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly. The session, conducted on October 9, was chaired by Vice-President of the National Assembly Kongkeo Xaysongkham.

According to Lao News Agency, Brig. Gen. Livong Laoly, Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy, disclosed the handling of 74 first-instance civil cases in 2026. This included 24 new filings and 50 cases carried over from 2025, with 71 cases (95.9%) resolved and submitted to the courts. For appeals, six cases were processed, all of which have been resolved and submitted. The prosecutorate managed 87 cassation cases, resolving 77 while 10 remain under review.

In addition, all 19 civil case retrial petitions and 20 new civil case files received this year were fully resolved. Out of 10 letters of proposal and notifications from the National Assembly, nine were resolved, leaving one still under review. The report also emphasized efforts in monitoring the enforcement of court judgments.

The Supreme People's Procuracy handled over 60,300 criminal cases in 2026, with 926 successfully enforced. From this total, over 56,000 were carried over cases, nearly 4,000 were new filings, 53,393 remain under enforcement, 5,973 have been suspended, and 22 were referred back to the prosecutorate.

In the realm of civil cases, out of more than 12,400 cases managed (with 11,240 carried over and 1,229 new), 766 were successfully enforced. Meanwhile, 11,259 remain under enforcement, 414 were suspended, and 28 were sent to the prosecutorate for further action.
