Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos Strengthen Ties Ahead of Lunar New Year


Phnom Penh: As the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2025 approaches, the Embassy of Vietnam in Phnom Penh recently hosted delegations from the Cambodian Veterans’ Association (CVA), the General Commissariat of the National Police of Cambodia, and the Embassy of Laos. These visits, occurring on January 23 and 24, were aimed at extending New Year greetings and reinforcing diplomatic ties.



According to Lao News Agency, the CVA delegation, led by General Kun Kim, and the delegation of the General Commissariat of the National Police, led by General Chhay Kim Khoeun, conveyed their warmest New Year wishes to the leaders and citizens of Vietnam. They expressed their confidence in Vietnam’s continued success under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Both generals also acknowledged the support rendered by Vietnam, particularly by the Vietnam People’s Army and Public Security Forces, in aiding Cambodia’s recovery and development.



During the visit, the Cambodian leaders congratulated Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu on his new term in Cambodia, wishing him success in enhancing bilateral ties and collaboration across various fields in 2025. Vu, in turn, expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s support to Vietnam over the years, emphasizing the importance of defense and security cooperation between the two nations.



In a meeting with Lao Ambassador to Cambodia Buakeo Phumvongsay, both ambassadors underscored the significance of maintaining strong relations between their embassies. They acknowledged the role of diplomatic exchanges in strengthening the Vietnam-Laos partnership.



Additionally, on January 22, the Vietnamese Embassy welcomed delegations from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Royal Cambodian Army, who extended their New Year greetings, further solidifying military relations.



In Laos, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam celebrated the Tet occasion by visiting and offering greetings and gifts to the families of Vietnamese leaders and volunteer teachers, fostering goodwill and community spirit among the Vietnamese diaspora in Laos.
